A Word About Life and Things

Stick Like Glue

There was a young man who lived in a small town in Pennsylvania. He was in High School, in his senior year, and he wanted to go to college after high school. Since his town was so small there were not enough jobs to go a round. He got a telephone book for New York City. He found a company that had 393 locations around the country. He did not have a computer or a typewriter, so he wrote, in longhand,  about 15 letters a week, to the different company locations. He kept this up up until he had sent a letter to all of the 393 locations for that company. He did not receive any letters back from the company. After graduation he got enough money for a train ride to New York City. He went to one of the company’s larger locations.  He went in and asked for the office that hired employees. He was told that all hiring was only done at a different location, just a few blocks down the street. He went to the building and asked for the manager of hiring. The lady at the information desk called the officer in charge of hiring and told him the young man’s name. The man said to send him up. She was surprised that the officer told him to come up. The young man sat at the officer’s desk and told him his name. The officer turned around and laid his hand on a large folder and said, we got all of your letters asking for a job, all 393 letters. When can you start. The young man went to college while working for the company, received his degree, and worked for the company for many years. He received many promotions and became a manager over several states. He did not give up, but stuck to his destination.

When we have a goal or a dream to do something we should never stop reaching for that goal. God sometimes gives us a dream or tells us what is in our future. God told Abraham that he was going to have a son, and be the father of many nations. It took 25 years before it happened. Moses knew that he was to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. It took 80 years for it to happen. We all have things we want to do.  Many people give up, because it is taking too long, or we run into problems we can’t handle. We send applications to 5 or 10 places and nothing happens, then we give up. We need to stick to our dreams, like glue. We will never achieve the things we want if we let small problems get in our way.

When we get old and retire, it does not mean that we do nothing for the rest of our lives. We need new dreams, new words from God, new challenges, new things to do. We can reach more people for the Lord. We can ask for the Nations. The God I serve will give us more than we can ask for. We cannot give up our hope, and dreams. We can do more than we think we can do. We just stick to our dreams like glue. God said “if we faint not, we will in due season reap, if we do not lose heart.”
