A Word About Life and Things

Guard Rails

There are guard rails on a lot of highways and roads. They are put there to protect the lives of the people in cars. Even if the roadway swales are 200 feet wide. Cars have been known to cross the swale and hit on-coming traffic. There are different types of guard rails. Some can be concrete, metal attached to heavy wooden posts, or wire rope. Guard rails have saved many lives.

The same is true with Christians. We need to put up guard rails in our lives. Job said that he made a covenant with his eyes, that he would not look at a woman. A lot of Pastors, Teachers and Christians have fallen because they had not put a guard rail on their lives. Billy Graham had a rule that he would never be alone with any women other than his wife.

King David fell into adultery with Bathsheba, because he did not do what he was supposed to do. He had sent his Army into battle, instead of going with then. Kings always went into war with their own Army. We are sidetracked because we do the things we should not do. Like taking a vacation from going to church, meeting a woman for a lunch, or flirting with a women. I have seen what happens when a man and a woman that are not married pray together. They form a bond with each other because they are agreeing about something they are praying about. Your wife or husband is the only one who you need to agree with, or your man or women friend, or Pastor.

We need to make a covenant with ourselves about what we look at, what we think about and what we do. That in everything we do we will honor God. Sin starts in our minds. We think about the wrong things, or are tempted to stray from our wife and many other wrong thoughts. If we keep on thinking about those wrong thoughts, we will sin. We put God first in everything. God said to think about the things that are true, whatever is noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if anything is praiseworthy - Meditate on these things. We need to keep God first in every thing we do.

      New King James Version
Job 31:1 "I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?
2 For what is the allotment of God from above, And the inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
3 Is it not destruction for the wicked, And disaster for the workers of iniquity?
4 Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps?

      New King James Version
Job 24:15 The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, Saying, `No eye will see me'; And he disguises his face.

      New King James Version
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.
