A Word About Life and Things

Aging

When God created mankind (Adam & Eve) He created them to live forever in the body that they have. Their bodies would never have gotten old. God told the man to not eat the fruit of the tree of good and evil, for he would die. When man did eat from the tree of good and evil he did not die that day but God made the cells in his body with a time clock so that from that day on man’s body started to age. At the time of Adam man lived over 900 years and then he died. Adam lived to be 930 years old.  The oldest man was Methuselah who died just before the flood and died at the age of 969 years old. Noah was the last of men who lived for more than 900 years. He died at the age of 905 years. The grandchildren of Noah lived to over 400 years old.

Noah lived 350 years after the flood. Abraham was born 2 years after Noah died. Abraham died at the age of 175 years. Isaac died at the age of 180 years. Jacob died at the age of 147 years. Joseph died at the age of 110 years. Moses died at the age of 120 years.

By the time of David, man’s time on earth was about 70 to 80 years. Some lived to be in their 80s and a few more into their 90s and a very few more into the 100s.

For the past 100 years, mankind has tried to extend man’s age. Some of the things they have come up with are very good. Some diseases have been eradicated. Man’s health has improved. We are living longer than before. We are living better than mankind has ever lived. But we are still going to die, and there is nothing that we can do to stop that. We cannot stop what God has foretold, that we will all die one day.

It is not our death that is important, it is what we do while we are alive. Do we just party, get drunk, and have a good time. Or are we adding to the kingdom of God? We are here for a little while. What we do will last forever. If we sow to ourselves we will reap damnation, or if we sow into the kingdom of God we will reap a reward. Paul said, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” This life is very, very short and eternity is forever, a never-ending forever. What we do is the most important thing we do while we are still alive.

When we get older we start to lose a few things. Like our hair, our energy, our health, and many other things. We may not be able to do the things we use to do, but we can do other things. New things. God can and will give us new gifts and new talents to do for the kingdom of God. We do not have to retire and do nothing with the rest of our life. We can do new things for the Lord. He will do what we ask Him to do. I’m getting older, but I can still do what God wants me to do. He gives us the ability to do anything He asks us to do.
