A Word About Life and Things

A Small Voice

      Elijah was in a cave and the Lord told him to go outside and stand on the mountain. The Lord passed by and a great strong wind tore into the mountain, But the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind, there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. Then there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. After the fire, a still small voice.

      The Lord speaks to us with a small gentle voice. He speaks to us not with a loud voice, or an audio voice, but a still small voice in our spirit. There was a young man in church on a Sunday morning. He heard something on the inside that said to give a lady that was close by some money. He looked in his wallet and he only had $5.00. He said to himself, that he could not give the lady such a small gift. He wrestled with himself for a long while. After the service, he approached the lady and said that he thought he should give her the $5.00. She said to him that she only had enough gas in her car to get to the church, and had asked God to help her to get some gas on the way home.

     We don’t know what is happening to other people. But the Lord knows all things and He uses other people to help those in need. He speaks to us with a very still and small voice. We need to quiet our own spirit so that we can hear what God is saying. If we practice stopping all of the wrong voices that we hear and start concentrating on the things of the Lord, we will hear from Him more often. He will speak to us with a small and gentle voice, and we will hear Him.

      New King James Version
1 Kings 19:11 Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD." And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake;
 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire, and after the fire a still small voice.
