A Word About Life and Things

Resolutions

Many people make New Year’s Resolutions. The first of a new year seems like the time when we need to make a new start in our lives. We start the new year by making promises to go on a diet, get rid of bad habits, exercise more, be better to our spouses, and many more things. We make promises to ourselves to buy a membership in a gym and to go every day. But the problem with that it is too big of a leap. If we miss one day our resolve is diminished and if we miss two days we start to make excuses and we give up. To really make progress is to make small steps, not big steps. We start small and work our way higher as we go. We go to the gym one day a week. After six months or so we may go to the gym twice a week. We make little changes in our lives.

It is the same with God. He does not make big changes in our lives, He makes little changes, here and there. When we are new Christians we come to the Lord with a lot of baggage. We still have a lot of little sins. He does not command us to be holy from the start. He works on the little things in our lives. Then more things and more things and more things until we come to a place and we wonder how we got there. Every day we need to become closer to the Lord. We give up the things of this world and we attain the things of God. The Lord wants a relationship with us. He wants to be a part of our lives in everything we do. He loves us so much and He wants to give us much more than we have in this earthly realm. The closer we are to God the more we become like Him. We need to take little steps. We shall all be changed.

      New King James Version
Philippians 3:20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,
21 who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
